Membership
As part of the global mandala of Shambhala, members are dedicated to creating an enlightened society. Membership involves joining a community committed to cultivating mindfulness, awareness, and compassion personally and in society. Membership is a commitment to exploring the path of a Shambhala Buddhist practitioner.
Membership is based on an individual’s choice to become a member, which arises from his or her felt sense of connection. The decision to become a member is left entirely to the individual, as opposed to an external screening, recommendation or acceptance process.
As members of Shambhala:
- We are willing to undertake regular mindfulness-awareness practice . This is the best way for all of us to support our Shambhala communities, our world, and ourselves.
- As we come to realize the importance of study and practice to our lives, we are inspired to provide regular financial support to our Shambhala community, based on our income and other financial obligations. Providing financial support to the Center is viewed as a part of our practice.
- And, as we come to realize the important of study and practice to our lives, we are inspired to donate our time to various tasks the Shambhala community needs accomplished, based on our abilities and time availability. Providing service to the Center likewise becomes a part of our practice.
The Council is currently reviewing our membership policies, procedures, documents, etc. You are invited to participate in this review process by either helping the Membership Committee as your abilities and time permit, or by sharing your thoughts on membership. To learn more or to share your thoughts via email, please email us. You may also speak with a Council member: Carole Summers (Coordinator), Sloane Haywood, Mike Keller, Isabella Kool, Leah Mermelstein, or Doug Pittman.
